The Terrebonne Parish Communications District, established within the Terrebonne Parish Code, Chapter 2, Article VI – Communications District (LRS 33:9101 et seq.). The Boards primary function is to provide guidance and oversight to the Administration Division, ensure fiduciary responsibilities set forth for governmental bodies, ensure legal responsibilities for governmental bodies, provide for the creation of Ad Hoc Committees to address specific recommendations to the full Board, provide regular scheduled meetings open to the public, ensure governmental transparency, and to create a cohesive and cooperative public safety communications system capable of expanding and contracting to the safety needs of the public served with innovation and technology.
The Terrebonne Parish Communications District embraces all of that territory within the boundaries of Terrebonne Parish.The District is governed by the Terrebonne Parish Communications District Board of Commissioners composed of seven (7) members, who shall be qualified electors of the District. All appointments are for terms of four (4) years. Representatives of the following agencies are appointed to the Board:
One (1) Representative of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office
One (1) Representative of the City of Houma Police Department
One (1) Representative of the Terrebonne Parish Fire Chief’s Association (not affiliated with Houma Fire Department)
One (1) Representative of the City of Houma Fire Department
One (1) Representative of Emergency Medical Services who resides in Terrebonne Parish
One (1) Representative of “The General Public” Representing South of the Intracoastal Canal (not affiliated with any Law or Fire Dept., and resident of that Geographic area.)
One (1) Representative of “The General Public” Representing North of the Intracoastal Canal (not affiliated with any Law or Fire Dept., and resident of that Geographic area.)
